We had flat nose or sub nose or cab over trucks for quit a while here in the states . Mostly it got where you could not hire drivers as most of the drivers thought the conventional or long cab trucks rode better. Also regulations change allowing longer truck/trailer combinations so you do not see many cabover trucks anymore. Now to the transmissions , any thing built or sold here in the last 15 years or so has been sincro if gear tns and lots of automatics or semi automatic being sold now. The real big difference in Japan and us is there class eight trucks still use hydraulic brakes, where everything heavy here has straight air brakes.
