My grandpa, a Danish immigrant, used to eat carp caught out of the Missouri river under the Blair bridge in the summertime. To fix them he'd get the oil in the pan so hot it would just about catch fire, then he'd throw in the carp. He said the oil burned up the small bones. I can't tell you how it tasted because I was never brave enough to eat it. I never was much of a fish guy anyway. My other grandpa said he had eaten muskrat and it wasn't all that bad.
The fella I used to sell furs to would stand there skinning furs and reach into the potato chip bag with his bloody hand and grab a handful to eat. It about made me lose my cookies.Jim
