That depends on where your tree is in relation to other trees and structures.
If the tree is out in the open where the squirrel can not jump on a branch from a neighbor tree you can put a large piece of tin around the trunk to keep the squirrel from climbing the tree. If the tree is next to other trees the only thing I have seen that works is a hunting cat to keep population down.
