When our mother would scold us for doing something, that was worse than the whipping. She wasn't afraid to go to bat for us. My older brother and I bought a new Dodge car in 1949 and we were both in high school. A car load of us drove down town and this was after school. When we reached the school our principal stopped us and told me and my brother to report to his office. He suspended both of us and when I got home I told my parents. She wanted to know if any of other classmates in the car were suspended and we told her we were the only ones suspended.
She wanted to know the name of the superintendent of the school. We gave her his name and she called his office. We went back to school the next day. We graduated in 1951. Hal
