I'm used to getting the discount at NAPA with the counter guys that I know- but went in the other day, picked up a $3.59 item, and the gal at the counter, who I'd never seen, sold it to me for $1.99, without a word. She didn't know me from Adam, and I was wearing my lawyer clothes, so obviously not a trade discount. It occurred to me, if they're going to give everyone the discount, why not just mark it at that price? Seems like they're needlessly scaring some people off with the higher marked price, if they don't intend to charge that much anyhow.
But I'm certainly no Sam Walton, so what do I know?
