I am currently looking at a private party sale in Maryland. It is approximately an 8hr trip each way. I'm not willing to hand over $10k sight unseen and wait for the title to arrive. I also don't think I'm comfortable leaving it behind for another day while I drive back to NY to register it, after I've handed over the money.
I have friends with trucks and trailers, but I don't think they are willing to make this kind of trip in winter.
It sounds like the best way is probably to fully register the truck down there (with insurance), drive it home without worry about tickets. Then sort it out once the title arrives in the mail.
