You might have a problem transporting that legally down any road especially for any distance without permits, markings, and proper equipment (trailer/truck). 100 pound tanks and smaller are one thing, but a full 500 gallon tank is a whole lot of explosive, and I have to think that propane dealers/haulers have all of the proper documentation and equipment. You don't want to drop that tank going down the road and...?
I think like most others, would be best to strap it to lift it. Tying it down? What does a liquid like that weigh? About 8 pounds per gallon? Plus the weight of the tank, another 1,200 pounds itself?
