I just searched and found numerous posts on this on Ford forums. Engine does NOT have to be pulled. BUT a lot of stuff does have to come off the front and most suggest taking a good inventory of the entire car. At a minimum you need to replace the timing chain gasket and other gaskets that get removed. Search, a lot of not so pretty stuff has to be done. BUT none of it talked about pulling the engine. Your mechanic is most likely NOT wanting to get into this repair as it will lead to other needed repairs being found and become a run away. $$$, job. Sorry,
