IF I personally were going to carry one in your case, in other words a classroom type scenario, think about where the bullet would go IF you ever had to use it and missed your intended target. most likely even a 38 special would penetrate several standard drywall construction walls into another room possibly injuring someone else. personally i dont think you would want anything much more than that. maybe even a 38 sw , 32 auto or something of that nature, might be a better choice in this case. if you had block walls between rooms you might go larger of course. That in my opinion would be the biggest problem with arming teachers, not that police firing in a room would be any better of course. just that i would hate to know that in doing the right thing i injured another student or teacher in another room. many of the older cartridges were considered good defense weapons simply because they wouldnt penetrate several walls. the slugs tended to stop in a persons body and they were used in tenements and things at very close range. a person wearing body armor would most likely not be overly affected by most handgun rounds unless just the impact itself knocked a person down or something. maybe it wouldnt make any difference, but its something to keep in mind.there are bullets intended to fragment easily that would work better , but if i was going to carry std ammo, thats what i personally would use,and there is lots of good old 32 autos around that would be easily carried/concealed. the larger cartridges for police use were developed to penetrate car doors, windshields etc, but you likely wouldnt be caught in that scenario as a teacher. My opinion of course. for what its worth.
