When I was preschool my grandpa would get the combine ready for dad each year. We didnt have a shed big enough for the combine so it sat outside. Grandpa took all the belts off and put them in side the combine over the winter months. Just before harvest I helped as much as a preschooler could help to put the belts back on. After the belts were on, Grandpa set me toward the back of the combine and told me to watch the back end of the combine. He started up the combine and engaged the machine. Then a baby chick fell out, then another and another and another and another and another and another and another. The chicks were followed by one very mad cluck hen. As the very mad cluck hen was gathering up her chicks. Her nest came out of the combine. Every year after that I watched when Grandpa fired up the combine for the first time but never saw another chicken come out of the combine. Of course I now know that grandpa knew there was a chicken in the combine.
