The barn has been gone from the farm for about 20 years or so. It came down in some straight line winds.
I have been thinking about putting up a new one. Don't need space for machinery as I have a 40x60 metal shed and a 40x50 machine shed. Cattle have three sided pole sheds in the pastures so I don't "need" it per se. I would just like to have one. The place doesn't look quite right without a wooden barn.
I am thinking of putting a new one by the silo in the location of the old one. I would like to do a true barn of only wood and would really like a round barn. Probably more like 16 sided as it won't be large enough to really be like the old round barns.
Anyone built a round barn? Did you purchase plans? I probably will just because the roof supports will have to be made here on the farm and that isn't geometry I want to try doing myself. It isn't like I have all the time in the world but I have lots of family that will help. We aren't Amish but being Mennonite means we are willing to try anything and are too tight to pay anyone else to do it!
