The topic of heating with wood reminded me of a tool I made about 5 years ago. The stove I have doesn't have an airtight ash pan so if you use it there's a lot of dust. I got the idea to make an auger bucket. I found a small auger at the local salvage yard, then cut it down smaller, the tube is 3" o.d. I cover the bucket opening with a wet rag to keep the dust in. I made the grate so there's room on one side for about a 5 gal. bucket worth of ashes. I just used it and took pic's. Probably wouldn't work well if ashes don't go thru a grate- chunks of unburned wood would jam the auger.
