My neighbor lady spent the first 14 years of her life in Vietnam. Evidently, her family was fairly well off. They had a beautiful, nicely furnished home and servants to help with the home, children, and the grounds. That is until the Vietcong moved in. They took over the house, allowed the family to live in the garage.
This 14 yr. old was sent to live with her uncle in France by way of two other continents. She attended school and was raised in the Catholic faith.
Upon graduation, her uncle brought her to the the States. She met and married a young Vietnamese man who had come with his family before the takeover. He spoke 5 languages, she 3. They were both involved in helping the US in the battles in Vietnam. He from a bunker at a major Army base, translating captured North Vietnamese messages. Both of them taught Vietnamese to US troops.
He has since passed away. She lives alone. Her son, his wife, and beautiful grandaughter, live 4 hrs away.
She is an accomplished cook, and practices all the social graces. Just a beautiful person to have for a neighbor. May God Bless her for who she is in her heart.
