hughb, I beg to differ wiyh you on buying guns in 1955 as I was around and bought a gun or two at that time. I was just out of high school and was in the local Sears store admiring a certain handgun. The clerk asked if he could help, so I asked what I would need to buy the gun I was admiring? He replied only $31.95 as there was no sales tax at that time. I had bought a shotgun by mailorder from Sears a couple of years previous to that time.
Buying guns or ammo by mailorder then was as easy as buying a hammer and nails is now. Joe
