Murders in the United States have been in steady decline for the last 30 years, and are 50% of what they were. My personal opinion for more security in schools is the same as the airlines. Give the teachers/staff the option to carry while at work. To qualify, they would need training and screening by an outside source. Many prominent people are using the latest cowardly act of violence to call for additional restrictions and fees for firearm ownership by law abiding firearm owners, including the President, saying that the NRA should reconsider their position on some second amendment rights. In years not to distant, the ACLU sued to protect "individual rights" for those who were committed by family or friends to protect them from a violent nature. They won their case and now it is extremly difficult to commit even the most obvious cases. Yet I have heard of no one asking the ACLU to reconsider the tragic results of their lawsuit. My opinion.
