mileage on mine isn't great, but a lot better than my truck.
The little computer thing tells me I average 16.x mpg - not sure how accurate it really is, I've never tested it.
Only bad thing I've heard of these is that the transmission is on the weak side if you're going to be doing any towing. Talking about the 96 of course, not sure what changed for 99.
All I tow with it is a small horse trailer full of goats - nothing too heavy. No trouble pulling that.
Not sure how many miles I have on mine - probably a little less than yours. I had it off the road for several years. No real reason, just didn't need it.
If you do that upgrade to your engine, I'd like to hear about it...
