All you will need to do is remove the four long screws as was indicated. If you do separate the halves they are not that hard to put back together, all you need is a small wire or a paper clip to hold the brushes inside the holder. There are holes in the holder and in the case of the alt so that the wire can be withdrawn after the case is reassembled and the brushes will be able to do what they are supposed to do. Zach
