I had a Business Law professor in college who was very adept at leading the class down a particular path and then turning the situation 180 degrees.
We studied an actual case over in Iowa where a farmer had booby-trapped a farm house that was frequently broken into. He did the usual shotgun bit and maimed an intruder in the legs. The prof had the class convinced that anyone who broke into someone else's house deserved to be maimed.
He then said, "Now, let's look at it this way. Suppose my 8 year old daughter has a cousin visiting. The two girls decide it would be fun to explore a 'haunted' house. A shotgun aimed to hit an adult in the legs is also aimed to hit an 8 year old girl in the chest. How do you feel now?"
