Deep plowing was a common practice in the Imperial Valley of California in the Early 60's I've a slide stored away of Two D 8's pulling a single bottom, plow was 4 ft going 42" depth or better. I have a JD single bottom Trailing trip plow with a 24" bottom that will easily turn 18" sure use up a 100 hp. It was mostly pulled behind a HD 7. to plow out Gambles Oak roots in newly cleared land
