When we were younger, we had neighborhood apple butter cookin's. I'd help with the wood cutting and hauling, and sometimes the peeling which was started the evening before. We'd start the fire before daylight, and when I came home from work at dark, they were still stirring it. Then we'd can it up. Copper kettle. Silver dollars in the bottom to help it not stick. Wooden paddle, and lots of neighbors. Good fun. Most of them are gone now, and I'm the old timer. . .
