Definitely buy the Bags..they will last quite a while..get several and have them on hand.. The grinder is what needs to be good..it should crush the pulp, to release the juice..not just cut it up.. Mine is all wood and the only limiting factor is the connecting bolts in the Bands on the Basket..too much pressure will shear a bolt..they are not much of a problem...you need to raise the pressure slowly, to allow the juice to trickle out, to get the last of it.. Crabapples, Pears and Apples together all the different types of apples mixed seem to make the best Apple Cider.. Ron.
