Rollie, Funny you should mention that as I do have an abandoned stone quarry on my property. It has not been used since before the turn of the 20th century but all of the "tailings" were thrown over the bank adjacent to the quarry and nearly all of them have at least one straight side. I found the "stocking stone" way up in the woods where there are a lot of ledges, some of which do have some nice flat tiers. I'm attaching a picture of a stone retaining wall I built (with the help of my B.I.L.) a few years ago. It is mostly built with the tailings I spoke of along with other flat stones I found around the property. Never built one before but how hard could it be? After all, a stone wall is nothing more than a pile of stones, stacked neatly! LOL
