Erv

Did you look for the serial number in the two usual places? On early production models, before serial number 22239, the serial number is located on the left front corner of the engine block, just below the manifold. On models serial number 22239 and beyond the number is located on the left side of the transmission housing, above and to the rear of the starter, on an almost vertical 3/8"x3" flat spot. Remember, the serial number is hand-stamped onto the tractor, not cast into the part.

The number you see on the engine block, directly below the dipstick, EAE-6015-(B?), is a casting code. Ford tractors have no separate engine serial number.

If you have trouble finding/reading the serial number, is the emblem/medallion still on the tractor? If it has survived, this may tell you what you have. If the medallion reads "Golden Jubilee Model 1903-1953" you have a ('52-) '53 Golden Jubilee. If the emblem/medallion does not indicate a model at all, such as "600" or "800" you probably have a '54 NAA. The emblem/medallion on the ('52-) '53 Jubilee has 4 four-pointed stars on it in addition to the lettering ("Golden Jubilee Model 1903-1953"). The emblem/medallion on the '54 NAA has 12 four-pointed stars on it and no lettering. Both have the "Ford" script above the "corn" stalk (looks more like wheat to me).

Hmmm... what else ... is the hole at the bottom of the grille round or oblong? A round hole indicates a Jubilee/NAA, an oblong hole indicates one of the "Hundred" series. Also take a look at the hydraulic intake and pressure tube or tubes from the hyd. pump. If there are two seperate, external tubes running back to the underside of the center housing, you have a Jubilee/NAA; if the hyd. tubes are (essentially) internal you have one of the "Hundred" series.

Dan

Today's Featured Article - Third Brush Generators - by Chris Pratt. While I love straightening sheet metal, cleaning, and painting old tractors, I use every excuse to avoid working on the on the electrics. I find the whole process sheer mystery. I have picked up and attempted to read every auto and farm electrics book with no improvement in the situation. They all seem to start with a chapter entitled "Theory of Electricity". After a few paragraphs I usually close the book and go back to banging out dents. A good friend and I were recently discussing our tractor electrical systems when he stated "I figure it all comes back to applying Ohms Law". At this point ... [Read Article]
