Pure BS.....No one is jealous of union employees. In fact, after spending much of my life working for a union contractor, I can tell you without question, unions are a safe harbor for dead heads that don't have the motivation, ambition, ability, or intelligence to work in a competitive work environment. I was constantly critisized for getting too much work done in a day, for looking out for the companies interests, and for refusing to co-operate with union officers when they wanted to bog down work progress. Unions create an "us vs them" attitude that isn't healthy for anyone. They extort money from members so that union officials can sit on their azz and do nothing.
With the cooperation of crooked government officials, much of the "good jobs" were locked up by unions. I left after just getting sick and tired of watching inexperienced, incapable, worthless "skilled tradesmen" drive cost up and quality down. I went to a non union contractor that pays better, does MUCH better work, and pays according to my capabilities rather than how long you've been paying what amounts to a bribe to show up and not work.
Unions are a large part of why this country cannot compete in a global economy. BTDT, saw enough so that I quit kidding myself and refused to pay for a lazy union presidents new truck.
