If she likes a bit of everything she should walk the Royal mile up to the castle.It has everything from antique stores and a good tour called underground edinburgh to pubs. I was posted to the castle in the 1990's and a lot of people don't realize the castle is a working military base being the home of the Scottish divisions headquarters so it sometimes is closed to the public. Rose street has some great pubs and eateries. The one thing about edinburgh is no matter where you go there is always some connection to scotlands past. It has always been a good city to wander without problems.
