I saw my first union worker in the Philly ship yards in 1968. Really impressed me. Lazy,slow,breaks every five minutes couldn't be fired because daddy is a union boss.Took me and another sailor. A day to install two gasket and four bolts. Because we had to wait for the union shops to send their reps to watch us work.
Ship was five months behind sea trial date and when we did leave. Ship broke down in the river two miles from the dock. Sat there three days while most of the repairs were done by non union sailors.
