It's funny, when the gas boom started here, everyone had gas fever. Leases were being signed at a breakneck pace and everyone was gonna be rich! Some people made out pretty good on the lease aspect and spent money like a drunken sailor. When the drilling finally does get done, the hole is plugged and the land owner is told "see ya when we need the well". Of course there's no further income on a plugged well until it's tapped which could be 20 years or more down the road. Of course that nasty little matter of taxes comes into play also. And with the price of NG right now, there doesn't seem to be any hurry to get the infrastructure in place.
