Picture that appeared in Oliver Heritage #43, June/July 2011 of 7 Oliver Super 55's that my brother loaded at the Charles City, IA factory in Winter 1957. B61 Mack road tractor w/673ci 175 hp Mack engine, pneumatic starter; air brakes on the 34' single axle trailer. Picture taken at destination, Leinbach Machinery Co, Winston-Salem, NC. Factory staff brought running tractors off the assembly/testing line to Charles who drove them on the trailer with use of two short boards to "piggy-back" the front wheels over the rear wheels. Front wheels of first tractor are resting on thick oak boards hanging over the front of the trailer. Brother was sent to local balcksmith for a 5/8" rod bent to make an off-center "V" to clamp the Regis (Stay) and Steering Tie Rods so front wheels were locked from turning which would have resulted in damage on the oil pan on one tractor and steering shaft on the other;steering wheels were removed on all but the first and last tractor for this method of transport. Brother had to sign a waiver in case of damage or if anyone was hurt, that he would have been responsible. He had loaded tractors in a similar manner at the Minneapolis Moline factory before!
