We grow a lot of willow in N.Ireland for heating homes, but we cut it at 2 yrs old, it will be about 10-12 ft tall. It likes our wet climate and is usually grown in wet low lying areas that are good for very little else!. It is hauled off in the same silage trailers and then goes for processing where it is pelleted and dried just like dairy cattle feed. It is then delivered to the householder by bulk blower truck and either blown into a cattle feed bin or onto a loft above the garage. An auger system feeds it to the burner. Unfortunately by the time it is processed it is not the cheap fuel it should be!! Sam
