My FIL says it's a kerosene engine with flat dome pistons and lower compression. It has a small auxillary tank for gasoline to start it and warm it up to run on kerosene. It's being run on gasoline now. I would try larger sleeves and domed pistons but hate to alter it from it's original state. Do you think that would increase power enough to climb the hills? Hills in southeastern Ohio are steep and often a 1/2 mile or more long. We all drive 4 wheels drive SUV's and pickup trucks.
