i work for ford and i do replace the chains in that motor. you do have to remove the motor to do them. it takes 17hours ro rplace the chains. i would not put a reman in and do not put a used motor in unless you put chains in it. they do not spread metal though the motor. every once in a while if the chain guides are broken up enough they will get in the pan and plug the oil pump pickup but it is not hard to pull th pan whil the motor is out. on the other truck, blown out spark plugs is common but you can put an insert and repair with no problem.
