I took a course in guerilla warfare in the Marine Corps, and the basic premise of guerilla warfare is you do not ever meet your enemy in a head-on confrontation, you hit him in his most vulnerable spot and disappear before he can retaliate.
A classic example was the Russian's operations against the Germans in the Crimean in WWII. The German war effort depended on getting supply trains through.
A handfull of Russian guerillas began mining the railroad tracks and blowing up the engines. The Germans then began pushing an old flatcar ahead of the engine to save the engine. The guerillas began using weight sensative fuses on the mines so it took to weight of the engine to detonate the mines. The Germans began pushing old gondollas filled with rocks ahead of the engine.
The guerillas then began using time delay fuses on the mines. The end result was this handful of guerillas disrupted the German supply lines to a point where the Germans became so preoccupied with getting supply trains through that they became open to conventional warfare from the flank.
Warfare isn't always a case of who has the biggest weapon. I always thought the ultimate guerilly weapon would be a powerful crossbow. Think about it. A crossbow is silent. You could sneak around and pick off your enemy and he would have no idea where you were.
