Edit: I tracked down the website - will have to study up on this. Have you been satisfied with the results, i.e. cleaning up algae and weed growth, etc.?
We don't use our dugouts for drinking water, only wash water and such. I also collect water off of the roof of the house which, in these wet years we've had lately, usually keeps the cistern full all summer.
