SDE, I feel for you. Getting today"s youth motivated to grow up is a HUGE societal problem. Objectively: You are in love with Laura. Son needs help. Son needs to be weaned of his mother. You are aware of your own inability to teach. (I have similar teaching issue with my sons, not enough patience.) Suggest you sit down with Laura, son if he is willing and career counselor or job coach to come up with a game plan to develop the boys life/independence. Need everyone"s input and buy in to the plan. Give it your best shot to make it better. If it works you all will have a family. If it fails you and/or Laura will then have to make a choice. If Laura can"t wean him then you it really would be time to go. Know none of this is easy.
