No, a gear box won't change horsepower. Horsepower is a function of torque and RPM. A gearbox can increase torque at the expense of RPM or increase RPM at the expense of torque, but the horsepower will remain the same. Of course that's not totally true since the horsepower output is reduced by the amount of friction in the gearbox, but the loss is not very significant in most cases.
