I say yes. There are many calculators for sizing rear axles in drag cars based on HP, torque convertor, first gear ratio, and rear axle ratio. I use to have a link, but can't seem to locate it. Most all of the major aftermarket axle manufacturers use these. Moser, Mark Williams, etc.
