In my opinion the best is to degrease it and clean some rust if any. Then spray on a bit of clearcoat to prevent more rust. Leaving it as original as possible (ugly in some eyes, but not most) makes a real paint job 100% easier. Putting on a high durability non stock paint color will be sure to please the person that preps it next time (not). It is however yours, and it is in a Village with appearances important. So-- I would wait till winter, and the heat of the passion of romantic neighbor tongue hanging out is ""cooled"" some and do it right. Jim
