I recall your mention of the '65 1 ton, I wonder if its the same situation as the old U-haul trucks, those were the same way, once out of the fleet, contractors and similar would buy these, but they had a lighter chassis, maybe just springs and tire/wheel size, engines were specific, did not know the brakes may have been too.
I'm a big fan of '61-'66 ford trucks, have a '64 F600, there seems to be a ton of parts out there too, but these fleet trucks must have been ordered and built special. I like the body style of those years, and the simplicity, they're just easy to work on.
