A year or two ago I got a Springfield Armory 1911 mil-spec .45, and recently Ive become interested in having a .22 in the 1911 frame (cheaper, quieter practicing.) I decided I did not want to get a conversion kit, but a stand-alone .22 pistol.
I see Browning has a new .22 1911 for about $500, really nice-looking pistol but its a scaled-down size. The one that really has me interested is one made in Germany by German Sports Guns (GSG), which is in full size (and only four or five ounces lighter), and which runs about $350-$400. Ive read some very good reviews on the web, and also heard a glowing report on Gun Talk. Anyone familiar with this gun?
Another question: As I understand it, it either comes with or you can get a barrel that is threaded for a suppressor. They will even sell you a fake suppressor. I see lots of references to fake suppressors in other gun reports, and I have to ask what is the purpose and benefit of a fake suppressor?
What I would like to have is a .22 1911 with a real suppressor, and maybe someday even a .45 with same. Can the fake suppressors be doctored to make them semi or fully effective? Whats involved in getting a real suppressor? Anybody familiar with this area?

Dad bought the 202 new in 1962, and I recall quite clearly going to the dealer with him to sign for it.
