I've told the story here often - was looking for a bigger field cultivator one spring, kinda needed it in a week or 2. Dealer had something for $1200. Ad in the paper, same thing for $700.

Went there, looked good, said sure, who do I make the check out to?

They looked real bummed, and said well they'd sell it to me for $600 then. I took the wind out of their sails by not bargining with them....

To me, the $700 was a good deal, it wasn't taking advantage of me....

Two falls ago, my combine header started falling down. Turned out it was a hyd block that failed internally, $2200 for a new one - 2 lb lump of iron with some holes in it. I bought the whole combine for $3700.... Field of beans and all my corn left to go, what do I do, look around for a used or try to talk them down or wait 4 weeks looking for a 1/2 priced bargin? Nope, get out the checkbook..... See a whole combine sold for $1200 this summer. But was I taken advantage of? Nope, I needed the part, I bought it. Paid what it was worth _at the time_.

If you wanted/ needed the radiator, you woulda paid what it took to get it - a trip to that fella's place.

You were a tire kicker, not serious about needing it. Good for you, you'll have time to find another for your price it seems.

The other fella made it pretty clear he _needed_ a radiator, and so he got one. The buyer shook the trees to motivate someone to sell him a radiator.

All 3 of you got what you wanted. So I don't understand how anyone got taken advantage of, or anything wrong?

Farming is all about buy low, sell high. All prices and availability of stuff is seasonal. Go to a farm auction in early spring, buy a combine for 80% of what it will cost in late fall. But the planter will be cheaper in the fall sale, than it would be in a loate winter sale. Demand and supply. Just common sense. Sounds like a seller should only sell combines when they bring less, planters when they bring less, and so forth - wouldn't want to take advantage of anyone looking to buy a planter or a combine....

The fella needing a radiator needed one, and he worded his ad to _get_ one. I'm sure he is happy things worked out for him.

Getting a kick out of it too, not sure what you see wrong, but a fun conversation.
