Just a note to add to a post by Dick2,further down. In the eary 1900's Allis-Chalmers was one of the greatest industrial complex's in the nation, building Giant "Corliss" type steam engines, with 40 foot flywheels. They built the turbines at Hoover dam, still running today,and electric generating plants, and turbines for nuclear power plants, and heavy duty electric motors that I still see running today in sawmills and factorys. Everything was built to a standard of pride and quality. I read that the big guns on the Battleships, Missouri, New Jersey,Iowa, Wisconsin,were turned by Allis-Chalmers, and that nobody today has lathe's big enough to do it anymore! What Happened? What has happened to America ?
