First, are you sure the GX will bolt up. Does it have a tapered crankshaft. Do you know if the Briggs' crank is tapered or straight. You may need an adapter kit and some machine work on the clutch before the GX will bolt up.
Your clutch should come off after you remove the bolt in the center of the crankshaft. However, it may not want to come off and will require a special tool. I've removed one with a 3lb hammer before by smacking it lightly on the side but I don't know if yours is the same as mine.
