That IT service manual is not correct on the timing. They are talking about the very early JD 4010s. I have never seen one in person. The pumps they are talking about do not have the external adjustment for the pump timing. I think they all would have been 1960 models. All of the JD 4010s I have done have had the external adjustment. I own one that I just did the pump in last fall. I timed it TDC and then set the advance on the pump while running.
To make sure ask your injection repair shop how to do the dead/static timing on your pump. You could have the real old pump but I think that most of them where replaced under warranty. They had other issues with them.
A word of warning. IT service manuals are not always correct. I have them but I kind of take what they say with a grain of salt. They do show how to make some of your own tools and such but on the real important stuff I go with JD factory manuals.
The picture is of a JD 4010 and JD 4020 I own. They both where bought by my Grand Dad new.
