The more expensive Frams have increasingly tighter filter paper, removes smaller contaminantes. Removing smaller stuff means the filter media gets plugged quicker so likely the more expensive filters contain additional media to met the factory oil change requirements. If running in a dusty enviroment, I would seriously consider the more expensive filters. Air cleaners are only so good in removing dirt and some invariably gets to the oil which can cause more wear as it circulates around. If no gravel or off-road operation; not as much advantage. But a few extra filter/oil dollars isn't a big issue to me compared to hugely expensive repairs and replacement costs, therefore I buy the best Frams or something equivalent for on-road stuff and OEM for everything else. I've seen some complain about Fram but have used them for nearly 50 years and never had a problem.
