You just need to get power to the electric clutch wire. Just make sure you are not on the ground wire. Some of the newer clutch's ground through the harness.
You may also try just putting some freon in and it should get the pressure high enough to start the clutch running, like Roger posted.
Are you using small cans or a 30# tank??? If it is the little cans then they may not evaporate enough to charge it without the clutch running.
