Don, while a bad oxygen sensor could cause the issues you are describing, there are plenty of other issues that can cause the same thing. If the sensor is bad it should be replaced. I only use OE level sensors on VW. Too many issues with aftermarket. Your local shop should be able to replace the sensor and clear the code. Even if their scan tool doesn't have Euro, they should be able to get into your controller in generic mode and clear codes. Then if you still have idle and starting issues, then you need to take it to a shop that has the diagnostic capabilities to find the problem.
