Jocco: It seems like you really want to buy this Long tractor. So just look it over like any other tractor. They really did not have that many standard problems. They just did not have any company or dealer support in the US. I do mean ZERO support. They would give just about anyone that had a pulse a dealership. Then the guy would sell a few tractors and then go broke or quit selling them. So they where orphans when they where just a few years old in most places.
I do mean it might take you years to find some parts for the things. Some models are better than others. Some models where built by Zetor. The one I got educated on was a 2610 and it was made in Brasov, Romania. The starter was Russia made and the nose exploded. We could not find anything that was even close to the same. IT WAS not a Bosch like some on here have told you.
Here is a news article about them:
Long Manufacturing built its first tractor in 1948. The company, however, soon stopped building their own and began importing tractors from Uzina Tractorul Brasov (UTB) and some Landinis. Long filed for bankruptcy in 1985, but returned by 1987 after a reorganization. In 1998, Long Agribusiness was purchased by the Escort Group of India. The Long name was dropped in favor of the Farmtrac brand. Farmtrac North America stopped business in late 2008.
So if it is real cheap then you go for it. Just remember that you could have a real big paper weight if something major goes wrong.
