Check the clutch for slipping. Some clutch parts are not availiable.
The Long is a direct injection diesel and should start immediately. One problem with poor starting or running is a clogged up air system. The air filter intake is in front of the radiator and the fan pulls dirty air to the air filter. After many years the air intake can get clogged up and require scraping out. This is not the same issue as the oil bath air filter mesh needing cleaning out. I assume you know not to clean the steel wool like mesh with gasoline and immediately crank the engine. The gas fumes cause an unregulated fuel supply and the engine can run away.The pto selector has a ground speed pto which works when the tractor is in gear and the clutch is out. No live power with it. Moving the pto gear lever the opposite to independent gives an independent pto. There is a ind. pto clutch lever on the left of the tranmission case. Do not leave it up, or the pto clutch disengaged for over 5 minutes as this causes excess wear on the clutch throw out bearing. Disengage the pto gear lever mentioned above and operate the tractor with the pto clutch lever down. Check and see if all this stuff works as it is supposed to.
The swinging drawbar assemble is fastened to the frame with 2 large bolts that go in from the sides, at the top of a flat housing. (frame is not really the correct word as that is the rear of the rear end housing) Anyway, be sure the 2 bolts are not loose enough to have wallowed out the threaded holes as the cure is to buy a new flat housing which might not be availiable. If you get the tractor, keep those bolts tight, but be aware they are just going into a soft cast iron housing, so don't get wrench happy.
