May as well wire it for bypass starting if using the 6V coil and a ballast. Then again who knows what maybe in there for a coil? What is the primary resistance? Those Dubuques start pretty good on 6V, no need to change to 12V. Coil polarity should match the battery polarity. Are the plugs wires on the cap properly? Has the distributer bushing ever been changed? Resistor or solid core wires? Autolite 216 or 437 plugs?
