: It's a little confusing but no problem.

: The number "1" wire is connected to the stud on the alternator body - the one marked "B" or "bat" or some variant thereof.
: From this stud, run a wire to the ammeter and thence to the battery as before, also to the ignition switch. Both wires must be 12
: gauge or better.

: The number "2" wire is the "exciter" circuit for the alternator. It needs a small feed of +12volts at start-up to start the
: alternating-current-generation process. Run a wire from the switched side of the ignition switch (the side that gets "hot" when

: through the alternator. Some folks put a switch in the wire, but you have to remember to turn that switch "on" after you start the
